ChandanShamala Library

Dear Valued Donor,

Thank you so much for your contribution! Because of your generosity, we are able to better serve the patrons of the Chandan Shamala Library. Your dollars have made it possible to provide innovative programming, purchase new materials and make critical infrastructure upgrades. We were able to make the following capital and operational purchases, in addition to improvements:

• More than 2000 books.
• 6 kindles and 1 IPad.
• One laptop computer and one desktop computer.
• Air conditioned Room.
• Musical instruments:
  • Tabla/Dholki– Indian percussion instrument.
  • Harmonium – Indian air pumped accordion.
  • Guitar.
  • Offered Courses:
    • Art and Music.

In addition to the aforementioned purchases, we have been able to expand our value to the community through cultural, educational and community wellness events. Majority of our events included at least 3 of the following: quiz art, extemporaneous speech, letter and poem writing, recitation, rhymes, memory tests, blindfolded pot hitting, Rangoli, conch 

2013 Events:

1. Wall Magazine – Ponkhuri –An annually published composition and publication
2. Competitions/sports on the occasion of Holi festival – 27^th, 28^th and 29^thMarch.
3. Cultural function/show on the occasion of Rongali Bihu festival – 15^thApril.
4. Anniversary/celebrations 7^th, 8^th and 9^thJuly:
   1. Cultural show consisted of.
   2.  Prize distribution.
   3. Group songs, solo songs, group dances, solo dances. 
   4. Introduction of tablet and and security camera.
   5. High speed internet connection and free WIFI Launch.

    5. Participation in district level art competition:

    6. A team from the library participated in the competition.

            i.      Prizes won:  1^st in junior level. 2^nd in senior level.

    7. Janmastami art competition at Sankar Math:

    8. A team from the library participated in the competition.

            i. 6 out of 14 contestants representing the library won 6/9 prizes available.

    9. District level national children science congress:

           i. 3 teams from the library participated in the competition.

         ii. 2^nd position in senior category and selected for state level competition.

         The  wining team from the library, went on to participate in the state level.

    10. Independence Day celebrations.

    11. Festival of lights.

    12. Winter educational tour:

       i. A team from the library went to Guwahati to visit the museums - Regional science museum and Kalakshetra – cultural museum of north east.

 2014:

1. Saraswati – Goddess of knowledge – Puja (worship) Celebrations.
2. Motivational talk by renowned actor Adil Hussain (Santosh Patel in “Life of Pi”) in April.
3. Free Health camp on the occasion of Mother’s day…11^thMay
   1. About 500 people attended - Internal medicine and pediatricians were present.
   2. Free medical check-up and free medicine was provided.
4. 3^rd Anniversary – competitions and celebrations 7^th, 8^th, 9^thJuly:
1. Cultural show consisted of:
1. Prize distribution.
2. Group songs, solo songs, group dances, solo dances.
