Getting Started: Step 6: Set Up WIFI to Intel Edison Expansion Board:
18th September, 2015. Chandanshamala Library:
Here are the Steps For Connecting Over WIFI from Intel Corporation or Video by Sparkfun Electronics showing how to set up a WIFI connection to the Intel Edison Expansion Board. Once WIFI is connected, communications with the Edison Expansion board can be done over WIFI instead of the serial connections.
Getting Started: Step 5: Set Up serial connection to Intel Edison Expansion Board:
18th September, 2015. Chandanshamala Library:
Here is a VIDEO from Intel Corporation showing how to set up serial communications from a computer to the Intel Edison Expansion Board. Once it is setup, the following can be done:
1. Serial communication will enable access to the Yocto-built Linux* operating system running on the board.
2. Once connected, Linux commands can be used to change the hostname and password of your board, set up a Wi-Fi* connection, flash board's firmware etc,
After Step 4, we are ready to do experiments with Arduino IDE: Please go to Step 7 - Please do not do Steps 5 and 6 now.
Getting Started: Step 4: Windows (64bit) Set Up for Intel Edison Expansion Board:
17th September, 2015. Chandanshamala Library:
1. Here are the STEPS from Intel Corporation showing how to set up a computer with windows ( 64bit OS) for the Intel Edison Expansion Board:
2. Download the integrated installer for 64 bit Windows OS.
3. Double click on the downloaded *.exe file to install the drivers.
The following drivers will be installed:
a. Intel Edison USB drivers and
b. FTDI drivers to communicate to intel Edison board with micro USB ports.
c. Follow directions under the Confirm Driver Installation section of this Cheat Sheet to confirm proper installation of drivers.
Getting Started: Step 4: Windows (32bit) Set Up for Intel Edison Expansion Board:
17th September, 2015. Chandanshamala Library:
Here is a VIDEO from Intel Corporation showing how to set up a computer with windows ( 32bit OS) for the Intel Edison Expansion Board:
The following drivers need to be installed:
1. Intel Edison USB drivers and
2. FTDI drivers to communicate to intel Edison board with micro USB ports.
Getting Started: Step 3: Connection cables for Intel Edison Expansion Board:
17th September, 2015. Chandanshamala Library:
Here is a VIDEO from Intel Corporation showing how to connect the cables to the Intel Edison Expansion Board:
1. 1Barrel connector for power supply.
2. 1 standard size USB connector.
3. 2 Micro USB connector.
Getting Started: Step 2: Unboxing and Assembly of Intel Edison Kits:
17th September, 2015. Chandanshamala Library:
Here is a VIDEO from Intel Corporation showing:
1. What is inside the box of Intel Edison Break Out Board Kit for Arduino and
2. How to assemble the parts:
a. Intel Edison Module.
b. Arduino board for Intel Edison CPU.
c. Mounting screws and
d. Spacers.
Getting Started: Step 1: Starter Kits for Makers with Intel Edison Development Boards:
17th September, 2015. ChandanShamala Library:
To make basic projects the following kits will be required:
1. Intel Edison Break Out Board Kit for Arduino. Please check out Maker Shed for kits and ideas.
2. Grove Starter Kit Plus for Intel IOT edition for Intel Galileo Gen 2 and Edison. Or
3. Grove Indoor enviornment Kit for Intel Edison - This document also has project ideas.
For Support, you can also refer to Intel Maker Support Page.
Getting Started With Intel Edison Kit for Arduino in Brief:
11th September, 2015. Chandanshamalalibrary:
Before using the Edison chip, drivers and softwares are needed to be downloaded.
To proceed using the integrated installer, follow the steps below:
1. Assemble the Board -with Intel Edison Processor - Please see the complete guide here.
2. Plug in both USB cables and the DC power cable to the Edison breakout board. Without the DC power cable, the Edison will draw more current than what is available through USB, causing it to power cycle.
2. If you are using windows, download and run the integrated installer from the following link: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/24738/eng/iotdk_win_installer.exe This integrated installer will install the drivers needed for Edison, including a modified Arduino IDE and it will attempt to flush the latest firmware onto Edison.
4. The integrated installer creates a directory named “arduino-1.6.0+Intel” within the installation directory (default is C:\Intel). Within this directory is an executable named “arduino.exe”. Run this executable to launch the Arduino IDE. If the IDE prompts you to install updates, select no. Doing so will overwrite the custom files that make this release compatible with Edison.
